EKODEE

Since 2008, Cabiokid and CELL joined forces together to develop a 3.8-hectare former rice land located at the back of Cabiokid.

EKO-DEE stands for a merger of eco and idea. The name hints to the prickling of our senses due to nature's unique way of responding to all living beings. The ultimate goal of this project would be to build a broader knowledge base among residents and citizens in order to cope better with resources given to us. The focus will be on tuning in to nature to harness better the natural wealth and built resilience towards a changing climate. EKO-DEE envisions a higher learning environment to be created on-site and courses to be taught on specific issues that will connect to permaculture and the great work as key pillars for development.

Training, broadcasting of information and the sharing of knowledge with local communities will become a major part of this project. It will be completed by research in order to properly document all achievements and internal insights. EKO-DEE will train partners and participants in their capacity for adapting to new ways of managing activities based on natural systems. The learning area will be conceptualized to train people from all walks of life in order to offer them opportunities to dig deeper in subjects related to nature. Different courses may be given lasting from at least 2 months to up to 2 years. All courses include a balance of theoretical and practical aspects. The courses will be augmented by results from researches done on site and conducted in key areas around the country. All students, teachers and researchers will be invited to live on the site (or sites to be identified in the future) to enable a better integration of permaculture in all levels of life.

As of the moment, trees are being planted simultaneously in order to regain some of the past bio-diversity and richness of the landscape, which had been lost in the advent of unsustainable agricultural practices.
