STEP or Sustainable Technologies and Entrepreneurial Permaculture in Isabela is a six-year permaculture program in partnership with two provinces and institutions that practice and support permaculture initiatives; Isabela, a province in the Northern Philippines, and Antwerp, a province in Belgium, and Cabiokid.
It is a sustainable development program using the permaculture as its guiding framework to answer the current problems that are rampant and easily observe in the province of Isabela. It is a program to promote the quality of life of the people utilizing ecologically apt technologies available. It navigates from the community level, to the provincial level, and even to neighbouring provinces of Isabela. It also provides various livelihood opportunities and activities which follows the path of permaculture.
Goals
STEP as a program believes with the UN millennium goals, which aim to provide an ecosystem within the realities of climate change. Adding to this, it would also like to improve what is the existing form of employment and production in the province and introduce sustainable practices in it. It will try to add livelihood-base as well as introduce sustainable lifestyle to the people; it will include ecotourism, natural resource management, and other ecologically sound technologies that could generate employment or livelihood to the people.
